As a Gospel minister, Evangelism has always been a passion of mine. Paul's advice to Timothy to "do the work of an evangelist,"
is one of the verses that has under-girded my ministry. From local church growth, to leading evangelism seminars, and preaching
at revival meetings and tent services, the Lord has blessed me with the privilege of leading others to Christ.
I have spent quite some time on my own studying models for evangelism and church growth, from Rick Warren's Purpose Driven
Church to Christian Schwartz's Natural Church Development, as well as several models for doing Cell Group ministry as a means
of strengthening and growing the church. If I had to name five books that I believe are pivotal to "doing church" in the 21st
century, they would be 1. Robert Coleman's The Master Plan of Evangelism; 2. Leroy Eims' The Lost Art of Disciple Making;
3. Carl F. George's Prepare Your Church for the Future; 4. Rick Warren's The Purpose Driven Church; and, 5. Dick Wills' Waking
to God's Dream. Of course, the Bible is the key to building and growing any church or ministry.
I have many years of experience as a denominational pastor, in churches ranging in size from rural to suburban. In 2003,
I left denominationalism, and began to seek God's wisdom as to the New Testament Church. This seeking lead me to the churches
of the Restoration Movement. I am currently working as an Associate Minister at East Henrietta Road Church of Christ in Rochester,
NY, where Minister Jerry G. Houston is Senior Minister. East Henrietta Road Church of Christ is a predominantly African American
congregation, however, there are also Caucasians and Hispanics in the congregation as the church is moving to the next level
and becoming more
ethnically diverse.
Let me briefly address some areas of particular interest.
- As a gospel minister, my only creed is Christ. I firmly believe in the Restoration motto, “Where the Bible speaks,
we speak; where the Bible remains silent, we remain silent.”
- Christ is the founder of the Church – and only one Church (Matthew 16:18).
- I believe that salvation comes through hearing the word of God, believing the gospel, repenting of sin, confessing Jesus
Christ as the Son of the Living God, and being baptized for the remission of sins.
- I do not support the use of mechanical instruments of music in worship.
If you have specific questions regarding other issues of import to your local congregation of the church of Christ, please
let me know and I will gladly respond.
