How I Became a Part of the Lord's Church

I was raised in the United Methodist denomination.  From the age of 12, I was a “preacher’s kid,” as my father served in the United Methodist clergy.  I read through the Bible for the first time when I was 16 years old, and it was then I determined to be a preacher of the gospel.

During the many years that followed, I attended seminary.  While serving as a United Methodist minister, I was often discouraged by how far from the Bible the denomination had become.  I explored other denominations, from Baptist to Pentecostal.  While some groups claimed to believe that the Bible was the inspired Word of God, I found that there were many doctrines being taught that I could not find in the Scriptures.

In the Spring of 2003, I left the United Methodist denomination, resigning my credentials.  For awhile I was still searching.  Somehow, I had never heard of the Churches of Christ.  The Lord led me by His grace and providence to the East Henrietta Road Church of Christ.  After attending for several months and spending many hours studying with the minister, Dr. Jerry Houston, I obeyed the gospel on June 30, 2004.  I thank God through our Lord Jesus Christ that I have found His church – the only church that can be found in the Bible.  Finally, I am able to be a true minister of the Gospel – preaching nothing more, nothing less, and nothing else than the Word of God.

The Lord has blessed me with a wonderful wife, who is also a Sister in Christ.  Karen and I have 6 children:  Sara (23, completing her Master's Degree at Buffalo State); Steven (20, a student at Onondaga Community College); Sean (11, in 6th grade); David (11, in 5th grade); Seth (8, in 3rd grade); and Daniel (7 months).
